Throwback to '97

"It's been 84 years, and I can still smell the fresh paint. The china had never been used. The sheets had never been slept in. Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was."

What luck! Two entries in a row where I get to talk about life-changing epic films! Right now, as I type, someone in a cubicle to the left of me is softly listening to the Titanic soundtrack. I have no idea why (I mean, other than the fact that the hauntingly emotional music helped transform my life when I was 13). The cubicle area of which I am a resident is usually pretty quiet. Sure you can hear all the usual office noises (phones, printers, silent cursing), but not music. My computer doesn't have speakers OR a media player, so if I wanted to listen to anything (and it wouldn't be Titanic) I would have to bring in my iPod.

Oh lord, I just had a horrifying thought. What if we were required to listen to children's songs all day? In high school, I worked at a toy store and we had to listen to Raffi and Kids Sing the Beatles and also Kids Sing Pop Songs. They would pipe them through the store a la Disneyworld and they would play over, and over, and over. -Shudder- I can't imagine a worse, more painful experience than being forced to listen to chipper tunes sung by kids whose balls haven't dropped for 40 hours a week. I think my ears would start to bleed. Part-time was bad enough.

I shall banish that nightmare from my mind. To clear my thoughts, I'll waste the next ten minutes looking at the Titanic images that Google has so kindly fetched for me and fantasizing about the car scene. Come on, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Mmmmmm...Jack. But as soon as the Celine Dion songs start to come on, this is so totally over.
