Public Grammar Enemy #1 Strikes Again

I was driving home last night, listening to the radio, and flipping through the channels trying to find a weather report because it looked like rain was imminent. The local alternative station came on and they were playing a catchy tune that I later learned was "Teenagers" by My Chemical Romance. I'm not a huge fan of the group...they are a little too whiney/screechy/dark for my taste, but the song on the radio was upbeat and I was almost home, so I figured why not listen to the rest of it. Well, all was going fine, until we reached the chorus:

They said all teenagers scare the living shit out of me
They could care less as long as someone'll bleed
So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose
Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me

I am a grammar freak, thanks to my mother, who would correct almost every sentence of mine and my sister's in our very formative years. Sure, I know I'm a little lax on grammar here in this blog and in real life, but that doesn't mean I don't immediately recognize the mistakes I'm making as soon as they come out of my mouth. Or fingertips. And I'm sorry to all those over the years who have been on the receiving end of my grammar corrections...I can't help it. It's a disease.

Needless to say, I shuddered violently as Public Grammar Enemy #1 floated out of my speakers. It is seriously one of my biggest pet peeves in the WHOLE WORLD when someone uses the phrase "I could care less about _______." Oh really? You COULD care less? Well then that negates the entire point of what you have just said. Could you NOT care less? Aaaah right, then that makes so much more sense.

Please, please, let's all learn a lesson from the embarrassment of My Chemical Romance, whose chorus doesn't really convey the intended message. In the future, if you could NOT care less about something, be sure to say it the correct way.
